There’s nothing quite like a warm, comforting breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning, and biscuits and gravy always hits the spot! Our homemade recipe is simple and oh-so-satisfying.
Ingredients:
For the biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
3/4 cup milk
For the gravy:
1/2 pound ground pork sausage
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Cut the butter into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the milk and stir until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly until it comes together.
Roll out the dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch circles using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a drinking glass.
Place the biscuits onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
While the biscuits are baking, make the gravy:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and crumbled.
Add the flour to the sausage and stir to combine.
Gradually stir in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for 5-10 minutes or until it thickens to your desired consistency.
Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
To serve, split the biscuits in half and place them on plates. Spoon the gravy over the biscuits and serve hot.
